THE WHY
We all desire a better world, a better future and a better way to live. The United Nations acknowledges that climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution pose a triple threat to human health and prosperity that may be averted only by transforming how we power our economies and feed ourselves. There is no time like the present to take meaningful action and change course for a cleaner world.
The drastic need for reductions in energy consumption globally coupled with the slow pace of adoption of renewable energy and energy efficiency across the region’s residential sector makes this a sector clearly in need of attention.

The Challenge
Since 2010, several decarbonisation and energy efficiency strategies have been identified nationally for the residential sector, but little progress has been made. Perceptions of increased costs of construction and unfavourable project returns related to sustainable housing are prevalent amongst the more-established property developers and builders. As such, home construction methods have remained along the traditional lines with homeowner-driven energy efficient upgrades such as solar water heating or installation of solar panels on a few residences. The unaware resident is missing out on the opportunity to reduce monthly variable expenses such as electricity and water consumption. Furthermore, sustainable homes increase overall durability, air quality and resident comfort, without sacrificing aesthetics and functionality!
Philosophy
Staying true to the Ubuntu philosophy, we see the energy transition as being one that must involve communal thinking. The change we desire starts with an individual that sees their role in wider society and each home provides an opportunity to influence the way people interact with energy in their homes, changing behaviours and driving a culture of sustainability!
Working Together
We know that even our individual, local actions can have global implications and all our developments will demonstrate leadership on sustainability issues both within and outside our communities, through education and shared experiences.
Long-term Goals
In the absence of transformed building practices, high-energy infrastructure will persist for the long term, prolonging the achievement of greenhouse gas emission targets, denying homeowners the opportunity to lower the burden of home ownership, to improve their health and mitigate impacts of climate change.
